Meet Justin – he oversees our NFL coverage at theScore and is THE man to listen to when it comes to fantasy football picks, having been ranked #2 overall in FantasyPros Most Accurate Expert competition from 2012-2015. You can follow him on Twitter here.
1. What do you do at theScore?
I’m the NFL supervisor and I oversee all our MMA coverage as well. I’m also a major contributor to our fantasy football content. I’ve had a lot of success in the fantasy industry that I’ve been able to bring to theScore, which is awesome.
2. How long have you been doing that for?
I started the week before the NFL season in 2013, so three years now.
3. What were you doing before that?
I worked at TSN as a web producer. Then before that I was the staff writer for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, which was a very fun job.
4. What made you want to work here?
There’s a bunch of reasons! I like the fact that theScore was always willing to try new things. I like that they were pushing the envelope, whether it was new products or new features or new types of content, which was really exciting to me! Also the people I knew who worked here were the type of people I respected in the industry and I wanted to be part of that as well
5. What is your favorite thing about working at theScore?
It’s tough to narrow it down. If I had to pick one thing specifically, it’s probably the ‘War Room.’ On NFL Sunday the whole team is in there and we have games on all six TVs and it’s such a great atmosphere. It’s the perfect combination of working at a high level and at the same time having fun! Then there’s the staff here at theScore. The NFL and MMA teams are made up of some of the best people I’ve ever worked with.
6. What’s the best ‘perk’ of working for theScore?
The patio is awesome. To be able to have meetings outside is great, or to just take a break in the sun. If we set up velvet ropes downstairs and found a couple of bouncers, we could probably charge cover to the patio here, it’s that nice.
7. What qualities does a person need to work at theScore?
Being self-motivated is key. You have an opportunity to bring all your great ideas to life here, but in order to do that, you have to drive yourself to see how far you can go.
8. Do you follow sports or esports closely?
Sports definitely. NFL is my passion.
9. What teams do you follow and why?
Most of them are just based on location like the Raptors, Blue Jays and Buffalo Bills. The only one that goes against that is that I’m a Dallas Stars fan. That’s because when I was young my dad was a big Leafs fan and we were watching a game together, and Wendel Clark was fighting Basil McRae, and just to be different I took McRae’s side. After that day I became a North Stars fan, and then they moved to Dallas so I became a Dallas Stars fan!
10. Besides theScore and theScore esports, what are the three mobile apps you can’t live without?
Twitter is definitely number one, Uber is number two, and Seat Geek.
