As 2013 comes to a close, it’s time to take a quick look back at an amazing first year for theScore as a purely mobile-first company.
It was the year we delivered one of our biggest updates since our App Store debut in 2008, transforming our news offering to provide a truly mobile-first, comprehensive, curated and real-time experience for sports fans.
To support this, we built a 35-strong mobile-first newsroom, powered by an in-house, custom-designed Content Management System (CMS) that allows writers and editors to deliver “snackable” mobile news quicker than ever.
We became the first multi-sport news and data app to deliver Player Alerts – a perfect tool for fantasy sports fans. More recently, we gave sports fans a new integrated, hyper-personalized way to get mobile-first scores, stats and news for all their favorite teams and fantasy players with “Feed.” We were also the first sports app to be completely optimized for iOS 7.
And our mobile-first approach didn’t go unnoticed. We picked-up a number of accolades during the year, including Time magazine naming us as a “Must Have iPad app” while both Google Play and PC Mag celebrated our Android offering. Digital Trends then capped off a great year by naming us one of the “Best iPhone Apps.”
But, more importantly, as we close the year we’re now at five million monthly active users – up by 26% year-over-year – as more and more sports fans get to know theScore.
Thanks to everyone for their support. Happy New Year!
