Who are you and what do you do here at theScore?
My name is Zach Lebovics and I work as a Product Manager on the Emerging Platforms team. We are the tech equivalent of an R&D team. Technology and consumers are always evolving, so we make sure that we are keeping up with these trends. We build experiences on new platforms that can potentially have the audience and engagement theScore app has today.
Describe the culture of theScore in one word.
I would say energized. To a lot of people work is just a job. You get a different vibe here. People are genuinely excited to deliver high quality work. Whether I’m working with developers, marketers or content writers, everyone brings a high level of enthusiasm. This allows us to work efficiently as a team and have fun doing so!
What’s something that the public should know about theScore.
We really care about our users. At the end of the day, we’re not happy unless our users are. Not only are we actively monitoring and responding to reviews, but also every single product decision stems from data telling us that it improves user experience. This mentality creates an environment that feeds off of user feedback and rapid experimentation.
Which athlete, dead or alive, would you want to meet?
Dominic Moore (Toronto Maple Leafs). Definitely not the most famous on the list, but he’s had a hell of a career. He’s a Harvard alumnus who has been on six different NHL teams. He also grew up in my hometown. I’d love to sit down with him and hear about his childhood and his experience in the NHL.
Favorite line or personal mantra.
“We don’t stop playing because we grow old. We grow old because we stop playing.”
What are two apps you can’t live without, other than theScore.
Number one is Spotify. I listen to music anywhere and everywhere I go. Number two is Facebook Messenger. My family is all over the place with my older brother in California and my younger brother in Kingston for university. Messenger is what we use to stay in touch.
If you were stuck on an island, what three things would you bring with you.
1. Unlimited supply of sunscreen because I burn like crazy.
2. One of those giant beach umbrellas for shelter.
3. A boomerang. I don’t know how to use one, but I’m sure trying to figure out how to use it could keep me occupied for a little bit.
If your house was burning down, what’s one non-living thing you would save?
My hockey gear. Any hockey player reading this will understand. I’ve been rocking the same shin pads for the past 10 years.
Do you like playing or watching sports?
Both! When it comes to watching, it’s only hockey. When it comes to playing, it’s mostly hockey. But, I do also play golf and the occasional game of squash; I’m investing early in my post-retirement sports.
Any last comments?
theScore is a special place. No matter where you’re at in your career, there is a lot of room to grow both personally and professionally. I have learned a ton throughout my first year and a half here. What is most exciting is the fact that this is just the beginning!
